Undiscovered 5 – Event Report

January 28, 2011

Madlab, 13th January 2011

A great start to the new year, and the newly-energised Undiscovered group. Ian Simpson from Slaughterhouse Studios came along and gave a talk, ostensibly on the theme of “DSLRs for beginners” but actually covering some really useful general tips on equipment, composition and inspiration, as well as technical tips for DSLR users.

Ian was kind enough to stay on the for the show & tell session afterwards, where group members showed off some of their Winter Colours pictures – check out our Flickr group to see what they brought along. Ian gave plenty of practical feedback, including pointing out which ones were good enough to earn money in a stock photo library!

Thanks to Ian for coming along, and we’d love to have him back in the future.

Next session is on Thursday February 10th at 7pm, at Madlab. The theme is “photo hack”, and we’re hoping to have some examples and discussions of how people have hacked together amateur alternatives to expensive studio equipment themselves. The theme of the show & tell is also “photo hack”, so if you’ve ever used a couple of Ikea spotlights to light a subject, or created your own infinity curve, stick your photos onto the group and let us know what the results were like.
